About the PPC

The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center focuses on five areas of public policy:

  • Behavioral health services and systems
  • Access to governmental services
  • Information technology in health and human services
  • Public participation in policy
  • Water resource policy

The Center’s faculty and staff partner with policymakers, appointed officials, other members of the public sector, the private sector, and residents to develop and evaluate public policy options. The Center has worked with small town officials, state policymakers, federal agency leaders, consumers and families, and so on. In each instance, the Center brings commitment to collaborative process and outcome.

The Center also works with academic researchers throughout the University of Nebraska system and other institutes of higher education throughout the United States and internationally to explore vexing policy questions.

The Public Policy Center was established in 1998 by the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska. Although the Center is a University-wide unit, it resides institutionally within the UNL Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The Center’s researchers come from diverse disciplines, including Business, Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences, Law, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Faculty and staff are dedicated to employing their disciplinary approaches, along with the expertise of policymakers, and the voices of stakeholders, to create responsive public policy.

The Center’s "Results for Nebraska, Models for the Nation" Report provides an overview of the Center's activities over the past few years and indicates some of our future directions. Click here to download a PDF version of the report
