Nebraska DHHS Awarded Grant Money for Suicide Prevention

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services was notified last week it will receive $500,000 per year for 3 years to implement best practices to prevent youth suicide. The grant is from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the US Department of Health and Human Services. The Department of Health and Human Services will work with the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska to carry out grant activities and evaluate project progress.

Western Nebraska Health Information Exchange

The purpose of the project is to facilitate electronic sharing of health information between providers in rural western Nebraska.  The long-term goal of the Western Nebraska Health Information Exchange is to connect all health and human services providers in the Panhandle to each other and to the multi-state area in order to make patient information accessible and ensure high-quality care for rural residents. The Public Policy Center has been actively engaged in visioning and facilitating the process.

Key Partners 
Rural Nebraska Healthcare Network; Panhandle Public Health District; Region I Behavioral Health; and Panhandle Community Services Health Center.  The Panhandle Community Health Connection is operating the project website at http://comhealth.org/.

Funding
 The planning project was funded, in part, by grant number 1 UC1 HS016143 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.  The implementation is being funded, in part, by grant number 1 UC1 HS016143-01 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and grant number D06RH06884 from the Health Resources and Services Administration, Rural Health Network Development Program.
