A Community Conversation: Future of Lincoln

On the evening of February 24th, 2005, 162 randomly selected residents of Lincoln/Lancaster County gathered to participate in "A Community Conversation: Future of Lincoln", on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Conversation provided an opportunity for ordinary Lincolnites to discuss their views about the city’s future development plans and quality of life. The event was a success: click here to read about what transpired.

The event was based on the Deliberative Polling® format. A random selection of residents were surveyed over the phone about community economic development and quality of life issues in Lincoln. They were then invited to attend the actual deliberation in which they engaged in group discussions about the overall topic, and interacted with and questioned a plenary panel of experts. The Conversation was an opportunity for ordinary people of different backgrounds and opinions to share their views with one another and become more informed about the issues in a non-partisan environment.
