On the evening of February 24th, 2005, approximately 50 randomly selected residents of Lincoln/Lancaster County gathered to participate in "A Community Conversation: Future of Lincoln", on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Conversation provided an opportunity for ordinary Lincolnites to discuss their views about the city’s future development plans and quality of life.
The event is based on the Deliberative Polling® format. A random selection of residents were surveyed over the phone about community economic development and quality of life issues in Lincoln. They were then invited to attend the actual deliberation in which they engaged in group discussions about the overall topic, and interacted with and question a plenary panel of experts.
The Conversation is an opportunity for ordinary people of different backgrounds and opinions to share their views with one another and become more informed about the issues in a non-partisan environment.
The Community Conversation is a collaboration between Leadership Lincoln, the Lincoln Journal Star, and the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center. It is supported by the Cooper Foundation and the Woods Charitable Fund.
