Budgeting Outcomes and Priorities: Mayor Chris Beutler's “Priority Lincoln” Initiative
The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center is assisting the City of Lincoln in obtaining the input of the public as part of the City’s outcome-based budgeting process that is being used for the budget in 2007-08. The Policy Center’s work is being funded primarily by the Lincoln Community Foundation. As part of the public input process, the Mayor's Office is offering the public an opportunity to answer a survey and discuss the budget issues.
The survey is available at all local libraries and several agencies around town. The survey also can be accessed by the link at the bottom of the page.
Completed surveys should be dropped off at any library or the Public Policy Center so the information can be combined with the online survey data.
Other means for providing the City with input include a random digit dial survey of 600+ Lincoln residents (completed early April and conducted in partnership with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Bureau of Sociological Research and the Public Policy Center), letters to the City, and town hall meetings (conducted in partnership with Leadership Lincoln, Inc.). The town hall meeting schedule is:
- April 22, Lincoln Southwest High, 7001 S. 14th Street
- April 24, LPS District Offices, 5901 “O” Street (This town hall is hosted by the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, and young people are encouraged to attend.)
- April 29, North Star High School, 5801 North 33rd Street
- May 6, Lincoln High School, 2229 “J’ Street

Mayor Chris Beutler is scheduled to make his decisions on the 2008-2009 City budget in May, and the budget is to be released to the public in June. The City Council votes on tentative changes to the Mayor’s budget in July. The public hearing is scheduled for August 11, and the Council is scheduled to adopt the budget August 25.
