PPC Graduate Student Appointed to Fellowship Program

Joseph Hamm, a Public Policy Center Graduate research assistant and doctoral student in psychology and law, was one of eight UNL students to be appointed to the Center for Great Plains Studies 2013 Graduate Fellows Program.

According to the press release the program "provides a place for select graduate students to work, meet, obtain support, learn from fellow students, engage with Center faculty and staff, benefit from the center's resources and progress in their studies."

Multimedia for the Web

The Public Policy Center has made video and audio recordings of many of our events, and recently we have started to present some of these online. Audio files are in .mp3 format, and video files are in QuickTime streaming format. QuickTime streaming allows the viewing of longer videos, 20 to 90 minutes, online without having to wait for them to download. Videos are presented either in just the smaller size (320 by 240 pixels) for easier and quicker streaming over a variety of internet connections or both the smaller (320 by 240 pixels) and larger size (640 by 480 pixels) depending on the needs of the project. The stand alone QuickTime installer for Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7 can be downloaded here if your computer does not have it already.

Most videos are in 320 by 240 pixel resolution to facilitate streaming over a variety of internet connections. Some videos are available in both 320 by 240 pixels and the larger 640 by 480 pixel format.

If you have any problems viewing the video, please e-mail us at ppcit@unlnotes.unl.edu.

Evaluation of Location-Based Services for Police: GPS-Enabled Cell Phones and Laptops for Applications of Law Enforcement Patrol (October, 2010)

For more information click Click here to learn more

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used by police departments to visualize the location of crime events and addresses of persons of interest stored in a centralized database on a digital map and to model crime patterns for criminal activity prediction. Most police departments, however, have not yet integrated their GIS data with Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) and Global Position Systems (GPS) for use in their field operations. This lack of integration inhibits law enforcement capabilities, in terns of being able to identify points of interest like the address an individual with a recently issued arrest warrant.
